Football Fever

Hubby is having fever right now... footy fever that is....

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the Grand Final of the Aussie Footy Season.
Our team, Port Adelaide aka Power, is in the finals against Geelong.
Last time they won the grand final was in 2004, we are hoping that they will win again this year!!

Our main entrance outside of the house has balloons in the colors of the team!!
Our living room has balloons, streamers, flags, poster and scarps of the team all around the house!!!

Tomorrow, we are having barbecue with friends & family at home and after lunch we are all going to put on our team t-shirts and sit in front of the plasma TV and watch the game, crossing our fingers for the team to win of course and protecting our ears from all the screaming and cheering that the guys will be doing... lol... this should be fun... did i mentioned that the game is on at the same time that Mona usually has her nap... lol...

Gooooooooo POWER!!!!!

Weekend Update

A lot happened this weekend.... so here is a somewhat quick and brief update...

On Saturday morning we received the gifts my parents sent for us through a dear friend who recently visited Mauritius and i must say the 3 of us were really pleased and happy!!!
Mona got the most gorgeous bracelet. It's gold (of course... as if mum would ever get jewellery that is not gold... lol) and it has a beautiful inscription of her name on it with cute little leaves on each side. (I tried to take pics of it, but it didn't come out quite clear).
Mona just loves the bracelet!! I made her tried it on on Saturday and she just wouldn't let me take it off...
The funny thing is that it has been quite a while now that i wanted to get Mona a gold bracelet with her name on it, and all the places we've looked at, either they were too big for her or way too expensive for the quality of gold.
It's really beautiful mom, thank you so much for such a gorgeous gift.

Before lunch, we went out to the beach and playground and let Mona run around and play with the other kids there. She loves going to the playground at the beach. She really loves the beach, as soon as she sees the ocean, she yells "Oob Oob Oob" which is water in Persian!! lol... She loves running on the beach and going towards the waves and running back to not let the waves catch her... lol... She would also squat down to look at the shells and different rocks on the beach and of course wave and say hello to everyone that she meets and run after the dogs!! lol...

In the afternoon, after Mona's nap, we went and dropped her to her grandma's place as we were going to the semi-final of the footy game. The game started at 4pm and it was Port-Adelaide (our team) vs the Kangaroos. We left early as it was going to be a very big and crowded game.
Little did we know that everyone else also left early....
We were stuck in traffic since 2.30pm and the game started at 4pm. We didn't even get parking close to the stadium and had to park on the main street on the other side of the West Lake. It took us 30mins to walk to the stadium at a fairly fast pace... We did make it just on time and sat down on our seats just as the game started.
It was the most exciting game of footy that i have even been too or even watch on tv!! The stadium was full, about 50000 people, mostly supporters of Port-Adelaide team. The crowd was so fantastic and i found myself yelling and supporting the team from the top of my lungs.... lol.
Of course we won!! By a smashing 80points difference and made it to the grand final next week. But the finals are in Melbourne, so we wont get to go to that one!!
After the game we had to walk back another 30mins to get to the car and funny thing was that the walk didn't seem that bad then... Then we drove home with the flag of the team out the windows lol... till we went to pick up Mona.
Apparently Mona had a great time too, she went shopping with grandma and granddad, had Hungry Jack (sort of like McDonald's) and even drank coke, she went to visit her little cousins (Negin and Omeed) and played and had fun all evening.
She was really happy to see her though when we came to pick her up... lol

On Sunday, which was another hot and sunny day, we went out to the beach and playground with Mona and she really had a great time playing ball with us. She was so happy to see the birds and run after the dogs.. lol.

I'll try to upload videos of Mona at the playground and the videos of the game, in a different post, cause i am really tired and need sleep.

Kisses and Hugs to 'Abdu'l-Bahá

This evening the cutest thing happened....

It was Mona's bedtime and as usual we go through our routine which consists of, getting comfy in mum's arms, reading a story book, then sitting up in the bed to say our night prayers, then kissing goodnight to Mummy and Kaloo, then saying goodnight to 'Abdu'l-Bahá (usually by waving at the picture frame of 'Abdu'l-Bahá on the shelf) and get tucked in and all set to sleep...

But tonight, after saying goodnight and kissing mummy and kaloo, Mona insisted to kiss 'Abdul'-Bahá! She was pointing at the picture frame and saying 'Abhá - Abhá' and making kissing sounds with her little mouth...

So I got up and brought her the picture frame of 'Abdu'l-Bahá.

She immediately took it and started kissing 'Abdu'l-Bahá! She had a huge smile on her face, so happy that she could finally kiss 'Abhá'. Then she started talking to 'Abhá', still smiling, then continued to kissing and followed by a big big hug to 'Abdu'l-Bahá. Then she went on to kissing 'Abdu'l-Bahá again and again...

After 5 mins of kissing, I said, "ok it's bed time, Mona go 'dodo' (sleep) now", I tried to take the picture frame back from her and she just wouldn't let me.... she had such a strong grip on it and pulled it back towards her, then she started to show me that she was not happy about it... she then took the picture frame and started to put it under her blanket (on the opposite side from where I was, so that I couldn't reach it!!!)....

I guess she wanted to sleep with 'Abdu'l-Bahá by her side...

I finally managed to take the picture frame from her by allowing her to give a last kiss goodnight to 'Abdu'l-Bahá. She looked at me very carefully while I was putting the picture frame back into it's place, to make sure that 'Abdu'l-Bahá wasn't going anywhere, and then waved and said: "Byyyeeee Abhá".

It was indeed a very cute little special moment between my daughter and 'Abdu'l-Bahá!

Friday Night Dinner VS Barbecue

Tonight our usual 'Friday Night Dinner' at Mona's grandma's house got cancelled.
So we were feeling a little bit sad that we wouldn't see our little nephew Ajay and his parents, so we decided to invite them over for a barbecue at our house, as the weather was pretty hot for a spring day.

We had lots of fun together....
While the husbands were busy cooking, the mum's played with the kids and set the table.
The kids really enjoyed playing outside in the back yard and on the bikes and later on inside on the slide.
We also ate outside under the pergola.
We had lovely yummy healthy food, such as grilled chicken, patties and sausages with grilled veggies (mushrooms, capsicums, onions) and cold and fresh salad.

After the dinner, we went inside for tea and coffee and sweets.
We had a lovely evening, and we really missed Mamani and Hamidi!!

Here are some pics....

House Shopping

Since spring is here, we have been going for walks on the beach near to our house.
The houses on the esplanade (facing the sea) are really beautiful and modern houses and each house we go by, we would say I want this one, no, i want that one, etc... Of course those houses are very very expensive (we are talking in millions here!!!)

There is this house however, that is brand new and modern and for sale and hubby has been having his eyes on it. Today it was open for inspection for prospect buyers and of course we were the first ones there to go see it.

It was so beautiful and perfect!!
It's on 3 level, just like an apartment. It's not too big but has so many modern features, and lots of hidden spaces, it also has it's own lift and ducted vacuum on all the floors!!
It's got 3 bedrooms all with its own ensuite (toilets & bathroom) and built-in wardrobes!!
The main bedroom has a jacuzzi. The view from the main bedroom is stunningly beautiful... imagine waking up by the gentle seaside breeze and blue deep horizon!!
On the first floor there is a huge garage which leads to a smaller living area with a small kitchenette and the back yard. The back yard isn't big, but who needs a back yard when the beach is your front yard and with two parks and playground on both sides of the block!!

After seeing this house, i really want one just like that and definitely want to live by the beach!!!

Anyway... dreams can come true.... well one day, maybe..... who knows.....!!!

Cake and Cousin to celebrate turning 18 months old

It was a very rainy and windy day here, so we didn't go to the park for Mona to play outside, instead we invited cousin Ajay and his parents over for cake and dinner.
Daddy bought a yummy sponge cream and nuts cake at the bakery and I cooked Mona's favourite dish for dinner, Spaghetti Bolognaise.
We had cake with tea in the afternoon, then afterwards, Mona and Ajay were high on sugar and spend all their energy playing on the slide and bikes inside the house.
After that, we had dinner and Mona was very happy because she really enjoyed the food and kept saying "hmmm yummy".
Then again, the kids played for hours. Mona was kissing and hugging everyone today!!
We had really a fun time together and very soon we will be celebrating Mona's 2nd birthday!!

Turning 18 months...

Our little Mona is 18 months old today.
Can you believe that she has been blessing our lives for a year and a half now!!

She had lots of milestone-achievements so far:

like recently she can already grab whatever is on the dinning table and bench tops in the kitchen and bathroom, open and close doors,

able to climb and sit on the dining chair so quickly, walking up and down stairs, running really fast, jumping from the couch or her chair and also jumping on the bed and doing all sorts of gymnastic stunts....

repeating the words she hears from mummy and daddy (oops watch out!), everyday she is saying new words or short sentences... like yesterday, she was looking for her 'tutu' (dummy) and said "mummy, tutu?", I then asked her back "Where is tutu Mona?" and she replied "In the bed!" and she went and got her 'tutu' from her bed!! lol...

She loves saying our names and the names of other family members and friends when are in the car driving....

and also copying some actions she sees from us like laughing aloud, pretending to cry, pretending to sleep, saying "look" to one direction while she tickles you and make you laugh... and copying actions from other kids when they are playing...

Her vocabulary is already over a hundred words, a mixture of French, Farsi and English.

She can have long and serious conversations with daddy and mummy for hours, in her own language that only her can understand, but still using some "real words" and "real names" from time to time...

and when she comes to see you (if you are in a different room or just not close to where she was) she will come to you and put her little face just in front of yours and say "heelllloooo" in a very long and sweet tone, and when she leaves you to go play or do something else, she say "bye" in a very quick and dry tone, as if she is very busy and have to leave immediately to attend to her business... lol

She is also very very affectionate lately, giving big hugs and cuddles and real kisses!! She is also very very socialable and will talk to almost anymore (specially went we are out and about, she will wave and say 'Hi' to anybody and go in anyone's arms!!

Some of her recent interests are eating bananas (lots of them), cheese sticks and bread, cucumber, carrots, strawberries and all kinds of fruits, and of course yogurt, she will ask you to give her a specific food to eat when the food for dinner or lunch doesn't please her, or when she is hungry, she will go stand in front of the fridge or pantry door and ask for "yum yum"...

playing doll and pretending to be mummy with her and pretending to cook dinner and cleaning the house,

reading her favourite books "Hi, my name is Mona and I am a Baha'i" and "Poems for Toddlers" at bed time, listening to and reading story books about ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and the Greatest Holy Leaf. She usually chooses which books she wants to read and she will point out to the different actions or pictures on the page and tell you what it is, and during the daytime she usually loves readings books about babies and the Wiggles (characters from tv show for toddlers),

when saying prayers to her, she will repeat the words after you... and some nights she doesn't want you to say the words and just wants to read the prayers herself from the prayer book...

asking to open doors when we are going out and pressing the garage door open to go out, she also loves pressing all electric appliances buttons like the dishwasher, dryer and heater, and therefore erasing all my settings on them...

putting away her plate or bowl and cup on the kitchen bench when she has finished eating,

and trying to put her clothes and shoes on, putting hats and sunglasses on, unzipping her jacket and undoing her shoes... brushing her teeth several times a day, actually it is the first thing she ask for when we get out of the bedroom in the morning, as soon as the toothpaste is finish on her brush, she will ask for more...

telling you when she needs a nappy change by mentioning that she just did a "poo poo" or "pipi" and then request a "nappy change", she will sometimes grab the nappy and wipe box herself,

Playing with keys, Mobile phones and home phones and pretending to be in a serious conversation with someone (walking around the house while in a phone conversation, just like her daddy),

and putting on mummy's or daddy's shoes, brushing her hair, putting hair cream and face cream and perfume on still fascinate her. Each time we are getting dress she will ask for "pish pish" (perfume)...

And so many more little things that she does each day, of which I'm sure i forgot to mention here now....

If the weather gets better and sunny this afternoon, we are going to take her to very big park for her to play, otherwise we will go and celebrate in a restaurant tonight. I will also be baking a special cake for her or maybe muffins (she loves muffins)...

Happy Birthday my sweet precious heart!!

Mummy & Daddy loves you so much!!

Today is Mami Joon's Birthday!!

This morning i was telling to Mona that it was Mami Joon's birthday and was showing her a picture of Mami joon. Then we started singing Happy Birthday and then after the song, she started to kiss the picture of Mami Joon and saying "mami joon... mami joon... muaaahhh(kiss)"

So i quickly ran and grab the camera and this is what i recorded:

Needless to say that the picture was so wet afterwards!! lol...

Happy Birthday Mami Joon

Love & Kisses

So maman chérie,
I just wanted to let you know that three of us here are thinking about you on this very special day... even though we are miles away, you have a very special place in our hearts...

There is no other love like a mother's love.... and i know this is so true now more than ever!!

Thank you maman, for your deep devotion,
your sacrifices and pain,
your endless patience and forgiveness,
and thank you for giving me Faith in and love for God,
and most of all...
thank you for the true love that you've given to me and my brothers...
and that you continue to share with us as our family grows bigger and bigger...

I know i haven't said this before, but you are my role model.
You are the one i look up to...

When you have a mother who cares so much for you that anything you want becomes her desires,
When you have a mother who is so understanding that no matter what is bothering you she can make you smile,
When you have a mother who is so strong that no matter what obstacles she faces she is always confident in front of you,
When you have a mother who actively pursues her goals in life, but includes you in all of her goals,
You are very lucky indeed.
Having a mother like this makes it easy to grow up into a loving, strong adult.
Thank you mom, for being this kind of wonderful mother to me.
And i can only pray and hope to be just as good as you...

I love you and miss you so much!

Happy Birthday Mamam Chérie!!

Your daughter,
Sabby

Update on Mona's Cystogram

This morning we went to the Women & Children Hospital in Adelaide for the Cystogram test for Mona. It was a very painful time for hubby and me. This is what happened...

We entered the exam room, had to undress Mona completely, as soon as we undressed her she started crying (who wouldn't, right!!). Then we had to make her lay down on the table, while the doctor cleaned her and then inserted a very thin tube in her bladder.
This procedure is in no way harmful, but it is an intrusion!! And believe me when i say that, because Mona started crying but with a very angry look in her eyes. And all the time they were doing this to her, she was looking at me crying, with this look that meant, "how dare you let them do this to me!!!" I was so sad at that point I just wanted to cry! I don't want to ever see that look in her eyes ever again!! It was so painful to see!!

They put the tube which is called a catheter in her to fill her bladder with a contrast liquid to have the x-rays done. Once the liquid is inside, A big hug large camera came above her (from her stomach to her legs.. it was really huge) and while this camera was slowing coming down on top of her, Mona started to cry again as she was frightened by it... So they took lots of x-rays pictures with this camera. We had to keep her still all the time so that the x-rays are done properly and don't become too blurry for them to analyse. This was a very hard job to do. We were 4 people trying to keep her still on the table and poor little thing was resisting and twisting her body with all the force she had!! She was still crying, louder and louder!! Everything we did to distract and comfort her didn't work!!
Then we had to wait for Mona to do a pee (pipi) so that she clears the liquid out for them to take pictures of that process to see if she had Urinary Reflux (meaning that her pee goes back up her ureters tubes into the kidneys, which could cause severe infection and damage).

We waited and waited for Mona to do a pee... It was the longest wait i had to wait... because she was really crying her lungs out at this stage and all she wanted was to get out of the table and get into my arms. She keep screaming "mummy mummy" and crying and looking at me with those eyes... it was really hard for me and hubby, because we couldn't take her in our arms, we had to keep her still on the table. I tried singing her favorite prayers with her, talking to her, nothing worked.. she still was crying!! After 30mins or so, she started to calm down and she still hadn't done a pee at that time. So i gently talk to her and sang a few Baha'i Songs while i stroke her hair and forehead and played with her ears... she then started to relax which then made her had a pee!!
So while she was peeing, they took x-ray pics again and then some more x-rays with the bladder empty and then they cleaned her up and made sure there was no more contrast liquid in her. And then the exam was finished.
So I quickly dressed her back up and when i went to give her a big hug, she refused and turned to daddy instead. (oh my heart broke!!!). But daddy did a great job at comforting her and she was totally calm and back to her usual self in no time. When she was calmed i extended my arms to her and then she came to me!! (i felt so happy!!). Then we had to wait for the results of the test, and as soon as we put her back down she ran towards the door and went to play in the waiting room.

After a few minutes, the doctor came to talk to us.
She said that Mona had Urinary Reflux!!!! (i felt my heart sank when i heard those words from her mouth!!)
She then proceeded to say that it's not a severe one but it's a very rare condition as only 1 in 4 children get it. What she explained to us was that one of Mona's Ureters (see image below) is not properly attached to her urethra (bladder), which means that each time she pees, her pee goes back up the ureters to the kidney. Now this could be very dangerous if she had another bladder infection, as the infection would then spread to the kidney, which could then lead to an infection or scaring.

The doctor then said that we need to do our best to prevent any urinary track infection (bladder infection) by giving her antibiotics daily for a couple of years till she is around 5/6 years old. Hopefully by then the ureter will have corrected itself, otherwise then we would have to proceed to an operation to fix it. She then called out doctor to pass on this info and we asked us to go see our doctor to get prescription for the antibiotics.

So we did... we went to see our doctor and chatted with her about Mona's condition and our concerns etc... I was concerned about giving antibiotics to Mona for that long, but as the doctor said, we must evaluate the positive and negatives results of giving antibiotics to her. The positive would be to prevent and treat any bladder infection that could cause her damage to her kidneys and the negative would be to wait till she get an infection to treat it by antibiotics and that might be too late if the infection goes to the kidneys. So we are going to give her the antibiotics once a day until further notice. We will also be doing regular ultra-sounds to check and see if there is no infection to the bladder. The doctor was actually quite shocked that Mona's results came back positive, she said it was the first time in all the years of working which children and referring them to have the test done that one of the test results came back positive !!! She also referred us to a Kidney Specialist for kids (a very good and experienced pediatrician from the same hospital we went to this morning) to follow up on Mona.

Then we went back home and Mona had a big big nap.

I am happy to say that she is back to her usual self, very happy and joyful and so full of energy!!

Thank you all for your support and prayers for my darling little girl and our family.

Royal Adelaide Show

Today we went to the Royal Adelaide Show!!
What is it, what is it? I hear you ask...
Well the Royal Adelaide Show is South Australia's biggest annual event run by the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia. Experiences run the whole gamut from carnival rides, exhibitions and attractions to exquisite handicraft, cookery and wide variety of champion livestock and animals. It is at the Show that rural South Australia and City business alike can showcase their best produce, wares and services.
The Royal Adelaide Show is the 'people's event' and truly offers something for everyone, such as food and wine tastings; entertainment with bands, dancing, comedy acrobatic; exhibitions and displays; fashion parades; competitions; animals (livestock and pets); farmyard nursery and animal petting area.

We had such a wonderful time and my feet is sore... we've been walking and standing for 6 hours!!! And there were lots of stand and things that we didn't get the time to see...
Mona really enjoyed the farmyard nursery with all the baby animals there... loves birds and puppies, but she was very impressed by the little baby sheep and pigs. She was so excited!! You should have seen her jumping up and down and giggling in my arms when i was showing her and explaining to her what the animals were doing.
When we went over to the games and attractions area, she was so happy and excited by all the lights and musics... she kept dancing all the time, even in her pram and would extend her arms each time we came near plush toys. We actually got a lot of plush toys... Hubby won most of them for us... he won a spider man, a ducky duck, a dinosaur, a Dora the Explorer, a Homer Simpson, and a huge pink monkey!! I won the smallest plush toys ever!!! lol... a little tiger, a turtle and a doggy!!
We also bought some show bags from different stands and Mona got a Dora the Explorer show bag!! She absolutely loved it... It had a little trolley back pack (with wheels and handle) and she since we got back home, she kept loading and uploading the bag with stuff and then keeps pulling it all around the house... lol.
My favorite part of the show was the flowers & plants stands!! As soon as you entered the hall, the smell was divine... they had set up a huge garden in the middle, full of different flowers... it was truly a diversity of flowers and it reminded me so much of how beautiful our Faith is with all the diversity of people sharing the same love and goals...
Of course i had to take some pics of the beautiful orchids!!
They had huge butterflies hanging on the ceiling and i was showing them to Mona and telling that they were "Papillions" and she extended her arms and started to flap them and said "vol vol" (fly fly)!! So cute!!
Daddy bought us some flashing lights, a star one for Mona, a sword one for himself and a pink cowgirl hat for me!! We were flashing lights all night long!!
Mona was saying hi to everyone and waving her star light at them!! She was such a cutie!!
A bit earlier, when we stop at a stand for coffee, the lady who was serving us was just in shock!! She was shocked that Mona has beautiful big blues eyes and dark curly hair!! She kept looking up at us (hubby and me) and then back down to Mona and was just in total shock, her jaw wide opened!! And she kept telling to everyone who was there "can you believe how pretty and cute she is?!?!) I felt so embarrassed as it was a little bit over the top coming from a total stranger... well... we are getting used to this type of reaction now, cause every time we go out, someone notices Mona's eyes and ask us where did she got them from!!! I'm so tired of this question now, honestly!! ....my answer to this question is always...."Euhhhh from God!!"... lol...

Here are some pics of the show...
Can't wait till next year!!!

Father's Day!

Last Sunday was father's day here in Australia.
As hubby was sick and in bed with a fever, we didn't get the opportunity to celebrate properly.
After what had been quite a hectic weekend and week, we did manage to find the time to celebrate though.
We went to Daddy's favorite Indian restaurant, Mona gave her a card, which i helped her to sign and we bought daddy the gift he's been wanting for quite a while, a PDA.

Here are some pics...

Brushing teeth

Did i ever mentioned that Mona loves brushing her teeth!!

The first thing she does and ask for in the morning is to brush her teeth!!
As soon as she gets out of her bedroom, she runs to the bathroom and point to her toothbrush and says "birssh teeeeeefff" lol..

I think she loves eating the toothpaste more than anything else!!
It's those kiddy's one that taste like bubble gum, because she would just ask you to put more on her brush every 30 seconds... lol
She does brush her teeth pretty well... she follows my directions when i ask her to brush the upper, lower and back teeth. She even brushes her tongue!! lol...

Big Girl now...

Last week (see previous post) I straightened Mona's hair, so this Thursday after shampooing Mona's hair, i decided to straightened her hair again, as we were going out in the afternoon.
This time, i got a better hold on how to do this properly with her.
So I started with the front (or fringe) and it came out so nice... It also looked and stayed perfectly fine for hours!!
But while i was doing the back hair, she was getting a little bit bored, and started moving around. I tried to give her an occupation, actually something that she loves doing, brushing her teeth!! And it worked fine, I got to finish her whole head, without much fuss nor any burns!!! lol...

I must say, she looks so much older with straightened hair!! (looks like a 2 year old or something!! lol.. definitely looks older for her age!! lol...)

And all this just made me realise how quickly she is growing up... she will be 1 and 1/2 this month!! Already!! Time passes so quickly...

I miss the days when she was so small and cutie pie, and when all we would do was just holding her in our arms and rock her to sleep... We would kiss her all the time and she would giggle and smile, showing us that she loves it.
Now, it's totally a different story... each time we try to kiss & hug her, she just pushes you away, specially when she is busy doing something... She is the one who decides who and when you get a hug or kiss (and definitely not both at the same time... and if you do, well you are pretty lucky and we are jealous of you... lol...)!!!
And pretty much for anything else... she decides when, where, and how to do it and if she needs help or not in doing it..... lol

She is so adorable and so incredibly funny... just love her to pieces!!!

Here are some pics, pics, pics and u guessed it, pics again!!

Weekend with Ajay

Last weekend, we babysat Ajay (Mona's cousin) and oh my gosh, what a weekend it was!!
Hubby was sick in bed with fever, so I was basically on my own taking care of two very energetic toddlers!!
Gosh, they were a handful... I had to make sure nobody was pushing or hitting anyone, and that they were sharing the toys to avoid tears and tantrums... make sure that no one was eating the other one's food/snack, again to avoid tears and tantrums, I was constantly walking behind them to wipe off the traces of juice and pick up the food crumbs they would leave on the floor and of course had to be very very proactive, so that no one gets hurt or into trouble...
Really made me think twice about having another child soon.... lol...

But gosh we laughed so much.... we really had a wonderful time together... singing, dancing, jumping around, running around, tickling and giggling for reasons that no sane adult would find logic!!! lol

I even managed to put them both to nap, together, at the same time, in the same bed!! I was so proud of me!! lol... I guessed it helped a lot that i made them run and spend all their energy, so that they would go to nap fairly easily... and it worked!!! Yay!!

Here are some pics of the weekend.
